For the 1st time in school history the Girls Track & Field team has won a state title. The program was the state runner up in 2007 and the state title is the school’s 7th overall title joining the 89′ & 91′ Girls Cross Country state teams, the 01′ Boys Soccer state team and the 12′, 13′ & 14′ Boys Basketball state team. The Eagles were led by an outstanding performance from Junior Chika Amene who won 3 individual state titles in the 100 meter (12.71), 200 meter (25.71) & the 400 meter (58.83). Amene was also a member of the state championship 1600 meter relay team along with Senior Rebekah Wilson and Juniors Kaelin Ray and Shelby Goodson. The 1600 relay team also set a new school record finishing in 4:07.37. Ray won the state title in the 300 meter hurdles breaking her own school record in a time of 45.98. Ray also finished 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles (15.47) and was a member of the 3rd place 800 meter relay along with Goodson, Sophomore Grace Sanders and Junior Grace McFerrin that finished in 1:49.10.
