The boys track team competed in the MHSAA Division IV State Championship in Hudsonville on Saturday finishing 2nd overall to Kalamazoo Hackett. The Eagles went into the final event of the day trailing 2nd by 5 points and needed to finish in the top 3 in order to earn the runner-up trophy. However right before the event started the meet was delayed by the 4th lighting delay of the day but this one would last almost 2 and 1/2 hours when the Eagles finally took the track after 9 PM. With the rain still falling the 1600 meter relay team of Austin Little, Eric Wagoner, Chris Davenport and Dubem Amene went out and broke their own school record in a time of 3:28.92 to finish 2nd in the event and secure the best finish in school history in boys track and field.
The 3200 meter relay team of Wagoner, Little, Kameron Terry and Amene got the scoring off for the Eagles on the day finishing 2nd in the event. The 800 meter relay of Bryson Glenn, Little, Zach Johnson and Chris Davenport also finished 2nd. Davenport had a big day earning all state honors in all 4 of his events. He not only helped 2 relays to top finishes but he also finished 5th in the 100 meter and he was the state runner-up in the long jump, jumping 21’3.75″. Amene who anchored 2 of the relay teams to 2nd place finishes would have the top finish of the day winning the state title in the 400 meter by flying around the track in a time of 49.75.
