The 2017 Girls Track & Field team won the 1st MHSAA Track & Field State Title in school history. The Girls Track program was the state runner up in 2007 and helped capture the school’s 7th state title. The Eagles were led by an outstanding performance from Chika Amene ’18 who won 3 individual state titles in the 100 meter (12.71), 200 meter (25.71) & the 400 meter (58.83). Amene was also a member of the state championship 1600 meter relay team along with Rebekah Wilson ’17, Kaelin Ray ’18 and Shelby Goodson ’18. The 1600 relay team also set the school record finishing in 4:07.37. Ray won the state title in the 300 meter hurdles breaking her own school record in a time of 45.98. Ray also finished 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles (15.47) and was a member of the 3rd place 800 meter relay along with Goodson, Grace Sanders ’19 and Grace McFerrin ’18 that finished in 1:49.10.
