The Varsity baseball team defeated Birmingham Roeper by a score of 5-2 to clinch the Red Division Conference title. Junior pitcher Zach Johnson pitched 5 strong innings striking out 11, scattering 3 hits and allowing zero earned runs to notch the win. Fellow Junior Matthew Guerra came on in pitch the final two frames, striking out 3 and also allowing zero runs to get the save.
Offensively, the team got going in the first inning when Zach Johnson scored to break into the scoring column. Roeper would also get on the board in the first inning to knot the score at 1-1. The score would remain tied until the 5th inning when Blake Parpart hit and later scored another Eagle run to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Two batters later Zach Johnson would reach on a single and was later driven home by Asher Laturno to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead going into the 6th.
The 6th inning led to another Eagle run when Blake Parpart doubled to knock in Freshman Jalen Adams who scored from second base. Junior infielder Will Harahan added a run in the 7th inning to give the Eagles the 5-2 win. The team finishes 5-1 in Conference play and moves to 9-4 overall. The team will play Lutheran Westland on Tuesday at Westland at 4:30 p.m. That game will be played weather permitting.
